A meme that's going around.
According to The Big Read, the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books on their list.
1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicise those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them.

So, I finally started to play Persona 3. I only put it off because I snagged Persona 2 and never got more than an hour into it (I'd say it was Koudelka syndrome but Persona will never be as cool as Shadow Hearts). So now I need to find someone else who plays it so they can tell me the trick to level grinding. because I so COULD, if the enemies would give me EXP or, and this is really the key, if my party members would stop whining about being SO TIRED! CANNOT CONTINUE! after 3 floors of a 250+ dungeon. That you must climb. In a year. That I can't go to every night, because then I would not be able to sing karaoke and study (this, like the tiny dresses in SH2, is actually true). And if you don't make at least five floors it doesn't really count and on that fifth floor are bitchy monsters and the game laughs at you when you try to analyze them to get their weaknesses like you do for, say, everything else.
Screw you, game designers. The Dungeon AND battle system are both supposed to be user friendly (unless optional). At least you don't have system that requires timing for basic attacks. Because that's what I want, to ease the tedium of battling. Not a button so that your people attack blindly until all are dead, NO, I want to have to pay attention to every single attack my characters make, so they're actually effective.
I would be filled with much annoyance, but I have cinnamon rolls. Also, I should totally be sleeping, since I have to wake up for work in 7 hours... LOL temping! Sleep schedules are for other people! |

Dear Netflix,
How do Mythical Detective Loki, Princess Princess, and Pridge and Prejudice equal a recommendation of The Godfather? I'm willing to allow Die Hard 2 since that looks like brainless fun and thus fits very well with PP and Loki, but the Godfather? Are you trying to tell me something about Mr. Darcy? (BTW, Mr. Darcy in the movie was merely a misunderstood quiet guy but what I've seen in the miniseries? Total ass. Random facts, FTW!)
P.S. Umm...Netflix? If 3:10 to Yuma isn't out until tomorrow, why are you processing it for shipment today? I can wait. Really.
P.P.S. One day, a rec system will work for me. Amazon and Netflix have both failed me (WTF High School Musical?) but I retain hope!
P.S. the 3rd! I am trying Gamefly again, wish me luck! I'm having it sent to my grandparents house though, so maybe the postmen will be fooled and try NOT stealing my damn mail. Maybe they could hire my UPS guy. He may know my embarrassing nickname, but at least he delivers his goods. |

I've been meaning to do this for a while but never got around to it. But! Finally! The list (mainly for my own purposes) of games that I own that I have/have not beaten!
( Games That Do Not Count )
( Games I Own and Have Beaten )
( Games I Own and Haven't Beaten )
That was a long list! So, I'm apparently about 2 to one in the Finish/No Finish ratio. >_> I should probably improve that... But it's not so bad, considering my magpie like snagging of cheap games that catch my eye. (MGS2 is cheap? Of course I want it! I won't play it, but...er...someone might?) |

While I am on a roll, I think I shall pimp Avatar at you, Nikki. Yes, it's a kids show on Nickelodeon and is, basically, American anime, but it's good. Apparently 3 wrongs made a total right. Try it! |

Your Score: English Genius You scored 100% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 80% Expert! You did so extremely well, even I can't find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don't. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you're not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!
Thank you so much for taking my test. I hope you enjoyed it!
For the complete Answer Key, visit my blog: http://shortredhead78.blogspot.com/.
The fact I actually enjoy things like the CPE practice tests reveals my inner grammar nazi, doesn't it? Although, I can't really claim to be one when excess punctuation elicits no more than mild protests and I find the use of symbols to express emotions in games cute. ♥ I should probably try a few more British ones, just for the frustration that random cultural differences and spellings cause. RealiZe is, minus the excess capitalization, a perfectly good spelling. (Never mind that I can't remember if grey or gray is the best spelling.) Also, note to self, when there's a reference to football in a British test, heading the ball is a perfectly acceptable move, not something for the blooper reel. |

So... I hop online to pay the student loan I don't have set on automatic payments, right? This is my second attempt, as my first was foiled by the fact that they had their system down for maintenance. Annoying, but it happens. This time? About all I got out of the system was a 'durrrr... you don't have any loans, right? Maybe if you, like, called the help desk?'. I could also send an email, but emailing help people is about as useful as just clicking the links a few more times. Thanks for not bothering to actually answer the meat of my question unless I get pushy about it.
So, yes, I'm annoyed. I shall have to try again tomorrow then, if that doesn't work, call them up and deal with general bureaucratic stupidity just so that I can have the privilege of spending money. >_< Well, maybe my background check will finally get in and I can start the new temp job I was supposed to begin on Monday. Or maybe not. But they did say that it'll be in by next Monday! Really! Trust them, they're lawyers!
Side-note: In cute news, my cat has returned to stealing my unopened pantyhose (the only kind I have, actually) from the drawer and I continue to ask him 'are you asleep in the suitcase again?' at least once a day. |

Is it bad that I'm tempted to play Portal not due to the innate hilarity of trapping my guy in an endless loop but because there's an (apparently) psycho computer? Also: the end song is cute.
Apparently I need to talk with you more, Nikki, because I've ended up on a British TV bent. Sci-fi retro cop shows that aren't aired in America? Why not! |

The Everything Test There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all. Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-) | Personality | You are more logical than emotional, more concerned about self than concerned about others, more atheist than religious, more loner than dependent, more lazy than workaholic, more traditional than rebel, more engineering mind than artistic mind, more cynical than idealist, more follower than leader, and more introverted than extroverted.
As for specific personality traits, you are greedy (57%), intellectual (56%). | | | Stereotypes | | Punk Rock | 67% | | Prep | 62% | | Geek | 53% | | | | Life Experience | | Sex | 10% | | Substances | 11% | | Travel | 26% | | Politics Your political views would best be described as Socialist, whom you agree with around 100% of the time. | | Socioeconomic Your attitude toward life best associates you with Middle Class. You make more than 56% of those who have taken this test, and 54% less than the U.S. average. | If your life was a movie, it would be rated G. By the way, your hottness rank is 57%, hotter than 36% of other test takers. | TAKE THE TEST brought to you by thatsurveysite |

I fixed my MP3 player! Yay for cute little Sansa! Of course, I'm not sure exactly HOW it got messed up in the first place, but getting strange viruses that FUBAR my computer in really odd ways seems to be my modus operandi. This is especially good since I've picked one up for my mom ($80 off? And my dad'll cover most of it? Hell yeah!) and now I can be all 'yes, they're cool, and SO FIXABLE...If you happen to fuck it up.'
Now I just need a new job before I break down in a neurotic fit whimpering that everything I do is wrong and everyone hates me. (It isn't really that bad. I do some things just fine and I'm around so rarely I'm surprised I'm remembered. I don't know if Lauren hates me though, she's kinda bitchy like that.)
Anyway, overall, life is cool. I fixed things and get to keep my shiny electric toy! Yay! Maybe this means that guy'll let me know if I got the kickass job or not? |

Manga pimpage!
Yes, for once I have a manga to pimp. Sure, it's retarded shounen, but it's good like One Piece! And, actually, kinda looks like OP, though it is done by the Rave guy. Anyway, you can find here. Anyway, the basic premise is that our heroine (who is of course young and wanting to prove herself) joins a group of mages who take jobs to help people only, of course, they're really a group of lovable thugs who tend to destroy things, drink all the alcohol or, in Gray's case, flash everybody. (How can you not love a hot guy who's all 'ummm... how'd I get naked again?') It's silly fun, even if it always makes me think the writer should stop rereading One Piece for awhile. So...try? |

Well, I broke my grandmother's internet connection, which may turn out for the best once we get it all sorted out. Or, it may cost money. Let's hope for the best. Also, I upgraded Netscape so it doesn't crash and die on me everytime a flash thing pops up but now I actually have to remember my passwords.
It's been a mixed day. |

He's now trying to break into his litter locker (plastic thing which you scoop into which limits the smell) like it contains catnip. Or the key to the crack drawer, which is what I call the top drawer in my dresser because, to him, it's BETTER than catnip.
Also, he may not be willing to eat beef but chocolate Slim Fast is a hit.
One must love ones pets, for they are as crazy as the owners. |

Alas, Nikki, your campaign against Sony is now doomed to utter failure. I had thought myself immune to the PSP since I hadn't heard anything interesting about it and, even though it'll have Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus was SO AWFULLY BAD it even makes me doubt other Square games. But...But...They're redoing FF Tactics! Presumably with a translation that doesn't blow! And extras! And...tactics! Tactics Advance was the reason I used my GBA. A lot. Enough to buy the DS, which put it miles above the 'cube. Just from Tactics Advance!
Someone seriously, SERIOUSLY needs to help me quit Square, because next they'll have a Star Ocean thing out for the PSP and I'll buy it. For two or three games. Why don't gamers have rehab yet? |

Long weekends mess with my head. I've spent all morning thinking 'Wait...do I work today?' because I should be. I already had two days off. But it's only now Saturday. Crazy.
And, yet, I still can't summon the energy to go out and shop. Not even for soda. Sad.
On a side note, my cat's destructive streak continues. My mother sent me my grandmothers birthday present and the cat? Ate the bag. >_< So now I have to buy a new gift bag and explain why the card has a few cat teeth marks. Oh, how I do love my boy. |

Well, I now have a DS Lite on hold, to arrive Tuesday. I was hoping to buy one used but of COURSE they don't have one and, well, if I'm going to pay full price I'm damn well getting a black one. So, since I have a DS of course I had to get Phoenix Wright because I've heard so many good things about it and it looks pretty funky. The last time I tried a popular, funky game I got Katamari and...well... even my parents played 'the roll-y game'.

Got a rental car today, to make up for the fact they just decided that, yeah, it wasn't my fault and, yeah, they're gonna total the car. Also, because you simply can't get a decent car for $6,000 from a dealership any more and private owners are a bit of a risk. So... Rental. GOt it, declined extra insurance, and just now realized that means I'm relying on my 'Well, you don't have REAL (ie expensive) insurance so you'll have to take care of it yourself. Ktnxbye!' insurance.
Ahahahaha. What's the likelihood I'll get into two accidents two weeks in a row anyway, right?
(I'm tempted just to run by the dealership and get that Cavalier [since they should now have done a Safety Check on it. Seriously, who buys a used car that hasn't been checked?] because it looks like my best bet for the money I can spend. Financial realities SUCK.) |
